Yanco hosts Women on Wheels

7 Feb 2020

Women in the Riverina are invited to attend the Women on Wheels training week to be held at NSW Department of Primary Industries’ Tocal College Yanco Campus from 23-27 March 2020.

Women on Wheels training provides women the opportunity to increase their skill in operating vehicles and equipment, and improve their farm safety through a range of training courses.

Tocal College Workforce Skills Leader, Vicki Magann said the drought has impacted many farming enterprises with the need to make major changes to the workforce.

“Many women undertake day to day tasks on farm, which entails using heavy vehicles and equipment to water, feed and move stock,” Ms Magann said.

“The Women on Wheels training includes a range of courses, such as tractor operation; quad bike operation; side-by-side utility vehicle operation; forklift operation; off-road four wheel driving and two wheeled motor bike riding.

“In addition, we are planning morning walking, yoga sessions and evening wellbeing and education sessions with guest speakers.

“The aim is to empower the women during these tough times and to create community comradery, whilst improving skills and knowledge.”

The Women on Wheels training is supported by Safework NSW, RAMPHs, NSW Farmers and Riverina Local Land Services.

AgSkilled is a vocational training program for the cotton and grains industry funded by the NSW Government, with industry partners Cotton Australia and the Grain Research and Development Corporation.

Fully funded accredited training is available to eligible participants with accommodation provided. Funding applications close 14 February, 2020.
