Irrigation 101 - Learning Online
Irrigation 101 is a series of online learning modules about key concepts in the Australian irrigation industry.
Each of the modules is designed to help new recruits - including on farm employees and others engaging with irrigated agriculture for the first time - gain a better understanding of how irrigation ‘works’.
The ten modules, which can be studied individually, or as part of a comprehensive series, include:
- Irrigation background concepts and practices
- Flow control and metering
- Irrigation scheduling
- Surface irrigation and distribution systems
- Furrow irrigation and siphons
- Pressurised irrigation systems
- Soils
- Pumps
- Introduction to plants
- Work health and safety
The Irrigation 101 learning modules are available to the public free of charge through the NSW Department of Primary Industries Tocal College website.
Participants who complete all ten subject modules in the series will receive a Certificate of Completion from Tocal.
Irrigation 101 is an initiative of the Sustaining the Basin Irrigated Farm Modernisation (STBIFM) Program delivered by NSW DPI.
STBIFM aims to increase water use efficiency in the northern NSW catchments of the Murray Darling Basin, helping to improve the long term sustainability of regional communities in this area.
STBIFM is funded by the Australian Government's Sustainable Rural Water Use and Infrastructure Program. The Australian Government is providing more than $13 billion for implementation of the Murray-Darling Basin Plan and associated activities.
