Equine influenza zoning and movement restrictions in New South Wales
The zones in NSW
NSW is currently broken up into two zones - the White Zone and the Green Zone (formerly the Purple Zone).
Both the White Zone and the Green Zone are considered disease free. The Green Zone exists purely as a high surveillance area as the disease was present there more recently than the current White Zone area.

More about the Zoning system
When equine influenza (EI) was confirmed in New South Wales on 24 August 2007, a complete ban on horse movements across the state was declared.
Four weeks later, on Friday 21 September, a four-colour zoning system was introduced, with zones drawn according to the level of EI infection found in each area. On 27 September 2007 vaccination buffers were introduced (also referred to as the "Special Restricted Area (Hatched)").
The zone boundaries were based on shire and council boundaries (local government areas), and also follow geographical and RLPB divisions where required.
Over time, as properties were cleared of infection, they were, once they met all criteria, rezoned.
