Animal Welfare Code of Practice - Animals in pet shops

Summary

This Code outlines the principles that everyone involved in the keeping and selling of animals through pet shops must use to protect the welfare of the animals in their care.

Animal retailers in NSW are expected to conduct themselves in accordance with this Code of Practice and thus demonstrate their commitment and concern for the welfare of the animals in their care.

This Code has been prepared in consultation with the Pet Industry Association of Australia, RSPCA NSW, the Animal Welfare League NSW, and other people and organisations involved in the industry. It is also endorsed by the NSW Animal Welfare Advisory Council.
