NSW DPI and LLS Animal Biosecurity and Welfare Business Plan 2023-2024

'Animal biosecurity’ means protecting the economy, environment and community from negative impacts of diseases and pests that affect animals.

The New South Wales (NSW) Department of Primary Industries (DPI) and Local Land Services (LLS) Animal Biosecurity and Welfare Business Plan 2023-2024 has been developed to underpin the NSW Animal Biosecurity and Welfare Strategic Plan 2019-2023,  which guides priority activities to safeguard the economy, environment and community from diseases and pests that affect animals as well as improve animal welfare outcomes.

The Business Plan (PDF, 1.46 MB) is an overview of the objectives, strategies, deliverables and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that the DPI and LLS alliance is committed to delivering in 2023-2024.

Scope

The Business Plan covers seven objectives:

  • Lead the preparation for and prevention of future biosecurity threats
  • Coordinate timely and risk proportionate responses
  • Rapidly and efficiently contain biosecurity threats
  • Minimise impacts from endemic biosecurity threats
  • Continuously improve the welfare of animals
  • Ensure community expectations around animal welfare are met
  • Develop Strategic Animal Biosecurity & Welfare Plans

The term animal includes:

  • livestock
  • wildlife
  • companion animals
  • aquatic animals and
  • animals used for exhibition and research purposes
