Prohibited matter pests and diseases of animals

Prohibited matter animal diseases or pests are listed in Schedule 2 of the Biosecurity Act 2015.

Most prohibited matter animal diseases and pests are exotic to Australia, e.g. foot and mouth disease, rabies and mad cow disease. If they were introduced and became established in Australia, they are likely to have severe consequences in terms of livestock productivity, trade or possibly even human health.

By remaining vigilant and acting quickly if you suspect a prohibited matter pest or disease of animals you may be able to prevent these consequences.

Don’t delay! Contact Local Land Services or ring the 24 hour Emergency Animal Disease hotline (24 hours) on  1800 675 888.
