Farrer Memorial Medal

The Farrer Memorial Medal is awarded annually to perpetuate the memory of William James Farrer.

Due to the age and archival nature of these documents, some do not meet current accessibility requirements.

Please note: The Farrer medal was not awarded from 1939 to 1942, and 1945.

2022 Farrer Memorial Medal

The 2022 Farrer Memorial Medal has been awarded to Professor Richard Trethowan for his outstanding contributions to wheat genetic improvement that continues to benefit both the Australian and global industry, and his contributions to the education and guidance of students and early career researchers in Australia and around the world.

Professor Trethowan has supervised 19 successful PhD completions at The University of Sydney, with seven more post-graduate students currently under supervision.

His research benefits not only NSW and Australia but has made a real impact on the global pursuit of food security.

Professor Trethowan's Farrer Memorial Oration is titled A Quest for (Sustainable) Yield.
