NSW Black Knapweed Strategic Plan

NSW Black Knapweed Strategic Plan

Black knapweed (or meadow knapweed) is prohibited matter in NSW. It invades pastures, crops and natural areas where it:

  • can outcompete desirable pasture plants
  • can outcompete native vegetation, leading to loss of habitat for native fauna
  • can produce chemicals that suppress other plants
  • is not normally eaten by livestock
  • is difficult to control
  • can contaminate crops.

The NSW Department of Primary Industries has developed the NSW Black Knapweed Strategic Plan to set the direction for timely and effective detection and control of black knapweed. If you would like more information about the Strategy please contact weeds@dpi.nsw.gov.au
