Lobster Harvest Strategy Working Group

The Lobster Harvest Strategy Working Group was established in November 2020 to steer a collaborative process to develop a formal harvest strategy for the NSW Lobster Fishery.

The Working Group process engaged industry, independent experts and key stakeholders in the design and development process, with public consultation also undertaken to ensure the views of all interested stakeholders were taken into account.

The Working Group was established as a sub-committee of the Commercial Fishing NSW Advisory Council (CommFish NSW). The appointed members and Chairperson provided decades of knowledge and experience to the Working Group and development of the harvest strategy.

The Working Group expanded the existing NSW Lobster Industry Working Group, which is the ongoing key consultative mechanism for Total allowable Commercial Catch determinations and other policy and operational issues relating to the NSW Lobster fishery.

This expansion drew in additional independent and stakeholder expertise for development of the harvest strategy, engaging fishers and key stakeholders in the design and development process to support integration of the interests and objectives for all sectors.

Independent members of the Working Group included:

  • Chairperson – Mr Ian Cartwright

Mr Cartwright is a marine resource management specialist with over 30 years’ experience.

  • Independent Scientist – Professor Keith Sainsbury

Professor Sainsbury has extensive experience in fisheries science and its application in fishery management.

  • Independent Economist – Ms Sevaly Sen
