Find where you fit in primary Industries

Consider agriculture as a promising career option by finding yourself in primary industries

Developed by the NSW Department of Primary Industries Agriculture Schools Team, the Find yourself in primary industries material helps students navigate the multitude of career pathways available in agriculture and assists to find a role that suits their interests.

Our State’s farmers are the ultimate role models for young people considering a career in agriculture - going above and beyond, despite many challenges, to continue to deliver world-class food and fibre across the globe.

How does it work?

Students can take an online quiz, which helps them understand their current skills, interests and aspirations to help explore what job options are available to them. The quiz is supported by real-life examples of roles in agriculture, to help students visualise what a fulfilling career in primary industries could look like.

Find real-life examples of people working in the sector and the types of daily activities and study they undertake to get there.

It’s a real eye-opener for students in that they get to see the number of exciting opportunities available to them.

Following school, those looking to expand their skills through hands-on courses and programs can consider the world-class offering available at NSW DPI’s Tocal College, which is Australia’s leading provider of specialised training to rural industries.

At Tocal College we see students undertake a variety of agriculture studies and go on to lead programs in industry. By investing in knowledge and skills, we can empower the next generation to innovate and address the challenges facing our farmers and rural communities.

With over 300,000 people employed in primary industries across Australia, Tocal College provides the opportunities for people to grow and find their roots working in agriculture in NSW.
