Illustration of Vine moth

This is an illustration of Vine moth Phalaenoides glycinae Lewin (Lepidoptera:Agaristidae)

Order reference: vine-moth

This pretty black and yellow moth is quite common in Sydney where it feeds on a range of ornamental vines. Here it is pictured on Virginia creeper causing typical leaf damage by the caterpillars feeding on the leaves. The four parts of the vine moth life cycle are illustrated twice by Zeck. In the first set the stages are shown magnified to show the features. The second set in the background shows the same life cycle stages as they appear on the plant.
