These minute insects damage flowers and vegetables through their feeding in large numbers. The detail included here by Zeck shows the adult thrips with narrow wings fringed with fine hairs and the range of younger stages. Since thrips are usually fairly drab in colour, Zeck has brightened the painting by showing adult thrips on bright pink cherry flowers.
