A review of the Plantations and Reafforestation Act 1999 and Plantations and Reafforestation (Code) Regulation 2001 was initiated in 2021 by the NSW Department of Primary Industries. The aim of the Review was to assess the continued relevance of and need for the Act and Code, and if it were to remain in effect, what changes should be made to strengthen its currency and value.
Public consultation for the Review ran for eight weeks from Monday 3 May until Sunday 27 June 2021, and to support the formal submission process a number of online forums (webinars) were conducted to provide information. A Request for Comment form was made available to assist interested parties to make a submission.
The Department thanks those who participated in the Review process and particularly those who provided written submissions.
Next steps
While implementation of the Review’s non-regulatory recommendations is underway, further advice from Government is necessary before implementation of the recommended changes to the Act and Code.
