The charter-fishing industry on Lord Howe Island is unique in that it is a mixed commercial/recreational fishery. Most boats operate as charter vessels but retain and sell catch on the island. Marine Parks and the Lord Howe Island Marine Park Advisory Committee are investigating ways to formalise this arrangement in the near future.
Fish caught by way of commercial fishing in the marine park must be used in the vicinity of Lord Howe Island.
There is no general use zone in the Marine Park and trawling, long-lining, drop-lining, aquaculture and dredging are prohibited.
