DPIRD promotes recreational fishing as an inclusive activity for everyone to enjoy. It is a fun, healthy, outdoor activity that people of all abilities can participate in. Across NSW there are many locations to fish at including rivers, estuaries, beaches and lakes and dams. For many fishers, including families, groups with children and fishers with mobility requirements, fishing platforms provide easily accessible locations to enjoy their fishing experience. These structures are excellent places to fish as they provide habitat for fish, as well as providing fishers access to deeper water.
The below map provides anglers with a variety of fishing platforms from coastal and freshwater locations across NSW. The platforms have been divided into two categories “Fishing platforms accessible for all in NSW” and “Other fishing platforms”. As the needs of individual fishers can vary, DPIRD recommends platforms from both categories to be checked out by fishers prior to going fishing to consider if they cater for the specific needs of an individual or group (e.g. ease of access). Please note, some fishing platforms may not be visible on the map when the user zooms in due to the age of the image used.
Fishing platforms accessible for all in NSW
Various fishing platforms are available, which provide access for fishers with a disability or limited mobility. These platforms are also an ideal place for families and groups to utilise as they generally have a formed pathway, toilets and car parking nearby.
Other fishing platforms
Across NSW there are many other platforms which also provide excellent, land-based fishing opportunities, including for families and groups but also potentially fishers with limited mobility (depending on your circumstances). Some platforms which fall into this category may also serve other purposes including being used for boat docking.
