Proposed Recreational Fishing Peak Body

The NSW Government has committed to establishing a peak NSW recreational fishing body, in consultation with recreational fishing stakeholders, including consideration of appropriate funding and governance models.

Consultation has commenced with key stakeholders from angling and spearfishing organisations, the tackle industry, women’s fishing groups, mental health and wellbeing experts, young and emerging fishing leaders, fishing media, fishers from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, the disability sector and the charter fishing industry. This consultation is being facilitated by independent fisheries expert and independent Chair of the Ministerial Fisheries Advisory Council, Dr James Findlay.

Once preferred models are agreed, broader consultation with recreational fishers will be undertaken.
