NSW DPI has detected varroa mite, which was confirmed as Varroa destructor, in biosecurity surveillance hives at the Port of Newcastle.
NSW DPI is working to protect the NSW honey industry by ensuring we eradicate the parasite.
NSW DPI endorses the Australian Honey Bee Industry Biosecurity Code of Practice.
The Code of Practice is based on the principles of good biosecurity and helps Australian beekeepers to protect the industry from pests and diseases.
The standards in the Code are not onerous, they are things that all beekeepers should be doing anyway to manage their hives.
The Code of Practice is also available in Italian (PDF, 6201.45 KB), Turkish (PDF, 721.16 KB), Arabic (PDF, 488.7 KB) and Greek (PDF, 484.68 KB).
