October 2024

North Coast Local Land Services

On-ground conditions continue to improve across the region.

  • The Combined Drought Indicator (CDI) shows that most of the region is in the Non-Drought (99%) category at the end of October.
  • Rainfall was average to above average for October with the highest totals in the north of the region. This is continuing to drive the improvement in conditions across the region.
  • The continued easing of conditions is positive for landholders across much of the region, with considered management decisions for the upcoming summer a focus over the coming weeks.

Normalised Difference Vegetation Index

Plant greenness levels remain above average for many parts of the region during the August to October period.

Note that some of the extremely negative NDVI areas (brown patches) are water bodies.

The NDVI anomaly is a useful measure of vegetation density and plant health. It estimates the amount of green vegetation there is in the landscape compared to what is expected at the given time of year, against the baseline period 1987 - 2020.
